We completely understand your concern regarding the developing situation with the Wuhan coronavirus in China. I can assure you that products we source from China, which includes our Organic Spirulina and Chlorella, are completely safe to eat.

We have been following the situation closely, and it is now known that the Wuhan coronavirus is zoonotic (infectious disease caused by bacteria, viruses, and parasites spread between animals). Genome sequencing of the virus has revealed this is a SARS-CoV variant that is very closely related to one found in bats. Initial transmission is likely to have been through butchery of bats prior to cooking, as cooking at a high temperatures inactivates viruses.

Our Spirulina and Chlorella are produced on an island in the South China sea that is hundreds of kilometres away from Wuhan province. Both are processed under vegan conditions where there is no handling of animals at any stage in the entire production process. We also use a spray drying process for Spirulina and Chlorella, which rapidly evaporates moisture at 200C, and this is guaranteed to kill any bacteria or viruses that may be present. Furthermore, our producers must adhere to strict food standards, which includes personal hygiene (e.g. washing of hands) and mandatory frequent cleaning of any areas where food is handled, processed, and stored.

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow any guidance provided by the Food Standards Agency. To date, no guidance has been provided, and our own risk assessments have concluded that the risk of transmission through our products is extremely low.
