Two extraction methods are use to collect coconuts, firstly the long ‘hooking stick’, where a knife is fixed to the end of a pole and coconuts on the shorter trees are cut down, or the trained farmers climb the larger trees to retrieve the coconuts by hand. No animals are used during this process.
